Family Breakfast French Toast
- 1 Brioche Loaf (this recipe is for apple cinnamon brioche, you can omit the applesauce to make it just plain- or you can use store bought brioche, challah, or Texas Toast), sliced into 3/4 inch thick slices
- 8 large eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 tsp. orange extract
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup honey
- butter for greasing the griddle (even if your griddle is non stick, you still need to butter it generously)
Whisk together the eggs, buttermilk, extracts, and honey in a medium bowl. Arrange the brioche slices in a large flat dish (such as a baking dish). Pour the egg mixture over and turn the slices to coat. Allow to soak in egg mixture for 5 minutes, turning occasionally. Set griddle to medium high heat (or place on stove over medium high heat) and grease generously with butter. Place as many brioche slices on the griddle as will fit without crowding and cook on each side approximately 10 minutes, or until golden brown. Flip and cook on the other side the same amount of time. Serve with powdered sugar, maple syrup, or fresh fruit!
