Comeback, Butter, Tea, and A GIVEAWAY!!!

Wednesday, July 31, 2013

Hello Readers!
It's been a long hiatus but I am back!  There's been SO MUCH going on I don't even know where to start! In January we moved back to Washington State from Iowa.  We live in Eastern Washington so quite different from the western side where I grew up!
On June 21st I gave birth to my second little boy, Noah.  He was born premature like Daniel but very healthy and is doing well!
I decided after a long break it is time to start blogging again.  It helps me keep my sanity if nothing else, lol!

Anyway, this week I decided to try my hand at making butter.  It's SO easy and SO delicious, but before I get to that, let me talk a little about my Comeback giveaway!

I LOVE tea.  I drink like 5 cups of tea a day, no joke!  Recently, I  had the chance recently to try a new kind of tea called Teatulia.  Teatulia is not only a delicious tea, but it's also USDA certified Organic from sustainable sources, and it even supports social programs, contributing to rebuilding the local ecosystem in Bangledesh where the tea is grown.  In addition, it gives back to the community where the tea is grown.

I had the opportunity to try the white tea, the infusion, the lemongrass, and the black tea.  This tea is FABULOUS, very flavorful, and smooth.  I especially liked the white tea which is quite fruity and has hints of peach.  YUM!  All the teas I tried were loose leaf, except the black which came in compostable silk pyramid tea bags.

As a gift, Teatulia would like to offer one of my readers an iced tea sampler pack.  3 eco-canisters of iced tea, the infusion, lemongrass, and black tea.  A 3 month supply!  If you'd like to win this sampler pack, leave me a comment telling me your name, your favorite kind of tea, and your favorite treat to have with your tea!  A winner will be chosen at random on Wednesday August 7th!
If you'd like to know more about Teatulia, you can visit their website at www.teatulia.com.

Now onto BUTTER!  One of my favorite treats to have with my tea is tartines with jam and butter.  They are even better when your jam and butter are homemade !

Butter is SO easy to make and really hands off if you use your KitchenAid.  You can also use a blender or food processor if you don't have a KitchenAid.  So here's what you need:

  • 6 cups whipping or heavy cream
  • salt to taste (optional, you can leave this out if you don't want salted butter)
Pour the cream into your KitchenAid equipped with the whisk attachment.  Start whipping the cream.

Whip until the cream is "whipped cream" and then keep going!  Keep whipping until the solids separate from the liquids.

This took me about 45 minutes but I have a small bowl and so I think it would take less time if you have a larger bowl.  I had to create a makeshift splatter guard out of foil because it splatters a lot otherwise.

Once the solids and liquids separate, drain the liquids into a bowl - this is buttermilk and can be used to make pancakes or biscuits or whatever calls for buttermilk!

Squeeze the solids together to get all the buttermilk out.

Wrap tightly in plastic wrap.  This butter will keep in your fridge for 2 weeks and it is DELICIOUS!

Enjoy!  Until next time, Happy and Healthy eating!

Hi Elizabeth! I definitely want to try making butter, I think I've accidentally started to when I let my whipped cream go too long, I didn't even think about doing it on purpose! Duh! Great idea. My favorite tea is Teavana Matevana. My name is Andrea B and I love Digestive biscuits with my tea.

Wow funny how I have avoided for so long to go all the way with cream and meanwhile I could have had hole made butter and buttermilk!!
I too love tea, I prefer loose tea and enjoyably types but I do love lemongrass and jasmine, coconut too! I guess if I allowed myself a treat - scones would be my preferred tea companion ;)

That looks very interesting. I will have to borrow my mom's kitchenaid and give that a shot.

As for my favorite tea, I am stuck on Orange Blossom Hibiscus and Pineapple Chamomile. I don't normally have a snack with my tea, but if I do, I will have a piece of toast with my mom's homemade pomegranate jelly.

My name is Carrie E.

It's been a long time since I made butter! I remember making it by shaking a mustard jar half-filled with cream, so I probably got enough for about two pieces of toast.

Just in case the tea giveaway is open to Canadians (and I'll understand if postage is cost-prohibitive), my name is Nicole, one of my favourite kinds of tea is Earl Grey, and my favourite treat to have with my tea is homemade scones.

Even if you don't have any mixer or blender, you can still make butter with a clean, lidded jar (canning jars are great!), it just takes a while. But it's a great way to keep the kids busy :-)
